Today’s challenge is based on The Gingerbread Man:

1. Listen to the story or watch the story online.

2. Can you create your own Gingerbread Man craft. Provide your child with different shape cut outs e.g circles, squares, triangles. Encourage them to use these to add a design to the Gingerbread man.

3. Play a simple counting/addition game. Create a gingerbread man template. Cut out a series of circles. Roll a dice and encourage your child to count the spots on the dice and add the correct amount of buttons to the gingerbread man. To extend this for older children, encourage them to roll the dice twice and add the numbers up.

4. Can you make your own Gingerbread Biscuits?

5. Make your own ‘Gingerbread Playdough’ using 2 cups flour, 1 cup water and a sprinkle of Ground Ginger/Cinnamon.

6. In the story the Gingerbread Man runs away. Can you see if you can find him hidden in your house? (Hide a picture of the Gingerbread Man and encourage your child to find it)

7. Talk about the story and how the Gingerbread Man may be feeling when he is being chased and the different animals/characters are trying to catch him. Can you draw a scene from the story?

8. Can you make a trap for the Gingerbread man using construction toys? How would you catch him? 9. In the story the Gingerbread Man almost falls into the stream. Can you create your own water play activity and make a bridge for the Gingerbread Man? What would happen if he fell into the water? Experiment with a paper Gingerbread man and a water tray.
