Today’s theme for our challenges is the weather. We have provided many different activities that link to this theme for all different ages. We would love to see you have a go at as many as possible!

1. Make weather sensory bottles using cotton wool, leaves, flower petals, shaving foam etc to represent different weathers. (ideas attached)

2. Rainbow sensory bag – fill a ziplock bag with different coloured paint and make sure it is properly sealed. Encourage your child to explore what happens as the colours mix. Older children can mark make letters/numbers/shapes on the bag.

3. Shadow drawing – weather permitted! Place a toy on a piece of paper in the garden and encourage your child to draw around the shadow (picture attached).

4. Explore ‘rain’ through water play. Fill a container with water (you could even add blue paint). Use a series of empty containers or bottles with holes put into the bottom. Encourage your child to fill it up and watch as it ‘rains’. They will love exploring the water play and this is great for all ages!

5. Can you make your own kite that will fly in the wind.

6. Make your own rainbow windsock (ideas attached)

7. Can you create a weather themed craft (clouds/rainbows/sun)

8. Cloud in a jar science experiment activity – instructions attached – great for demonstrating to older children why it rains.

9. Raindrop counting – draw a series of clouds on a piece of paper with numbers inside. Encourage your child to use their fingers in paint to print the corresponding amount of ‘raindrops’

10. Cloud writing – Mark making in shaving foam (or flour) – fill a container with shaving foam or flour and allow your child to explore the sensory aspect of these materials.

11. Cloud dough – 8 cups flour and 1 cup oil – great fun!!! Add cars, cups, bowls, cake cases – anything! Really good activities to support sensory and imaginative play. All ages will love this!

Enjoy!
