The theme of today’s challenge is ‘transport’. Please see below for some different activity ideas based around this theme.

1. Cut out a series of 2D shapes (some of our older children could do this independently). Encourage your child to use the shapes to create their own transport picture e.g circles for the wheels, squares for windows etc. With our younger children, draw a template and get them to match up the shapes and stick them on.

2. Can you create your own 3D transport using any old cardboard boxes, tubes etc. Decorate it and send us some photos!

3. Use vehicles in paint to make marks on paper. Explore the colours you can make and the marks you can mark.

4. Use megablocks/duplo to create your own ‘track/road’. Add transport for your child to push around.

5. Write each letter of your child’s name on a cut out square (older children can write each letter independently or over guidance). Stick the letters in order to create a ‘name rocket’ or ‘name train’. Add wheels/different features to complete your transport.

5. Can you create your own boat? What resources could you use to help it float? Have boat races in water! Which resources were best to make your boat with?

6. Create your own ‘car wash’. Fill a container with warm soapy water and add some sponges or cloths with some toy cars/transport.

7. Use masking tape/coloured tape to create different patterned lines on the floor (this could alternatively be done with chalk on paper or on the pavement). Encourage your child to push the car along the different patterns. You could also use chalk to create roads and add different transport as a small world activity.

8. Create your own hot air balloon craft using a paper plate and string!

9. Can you make your own traffic light craft? What does each colour mean?

10. How many different types of transport can you think of? Can you write a list? Draw pictures to go with your list. Use the internet to research pictures of transport and discuss the different features. Where do we see them – on land, sea, road?

11. With our youngest babies, can you think of some different transport songs to sing? Wheels on the bus, Down at the station.. Listen to them online. Explore transport pictures in books too and emphasise on the names of transport.
