Clubs and Activities

The number of members in each club is restricted to ensure a safe environment for all the participants.

MONDAY

Chess Club – This club is run by the Year 6 teacher, Mrs P. Kenney, after school every Monday between 3.35 and 4.05 p.m. The club is available to children in Year 4, 5 and 6 and they learn basic moves and play games against each other. Occasionally they play tournaments amongst themselves and use a laptop for games against the computer.

Cool School Drama Group – This activity is organised by Mrs J. Toye and Miss T. Huckerby, who are both members of the school staff, and it runs from 3.45 – 4.45 p.m. The children work together to produce musical productions for their parents, learning both songs and speaking parts. The older children occasionally record their productions using a video camera. The club is available for all children from Reception up to Year 6.

TUESDAY

Little Chef’s Cookery Club – The Cookery Club is run and organised by Mrs Y. Harrold, the Year 1 teacher, and is available for a small group of children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. The children are taught elementary cooking skills and the benefits of eating a healthy diet.

Choir – A voluntary, lunchtime activity for children in Years 3,4,5 and 6. The choir regularly perform at school functions including the Carol service, the Spring Concert and Speech Night. They also perform each Christmas for the residents of a local residential care home.

Piano lessons – Available to individual children during the day on Tuesdays and Thursdays. All pupils work towards piano grade examinations and have the opportunity to play in school concerts and assemblies.

WEDNESDAY

Ballet Classes – Run by Miss C. Wheeler from the ‘H and C School of Performing Arts’, the ballet classes are available for children from Reception to Year 6. The children are grouped according to age, and classes for the younger children take place during the afternoon, while those for older pupils are after school.

Speech and Elocution – Miss S. Clarke LLAM holds speech and Elocution lessons every Wednesday lunchtime for children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 who have opted to participate. Children are entered regularly for local festivals and LAMDA examinations.

Recorder Groups – Available for children from the age of seven, there are a variety of lunchtime recorder groups for children of all abilities. The recorders also perform regularly at school concerts. Older children are given the opportunity to play treble and tenor recorders in addition to the descant.

THURSDAY

Football Training – This popular club is available for children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 and takes place from 3.30 – 4.30 p.m. every Thursday. The children learn football skills and also get the chance to play in matches against other schools. The sessions are organised and run by Mr D. Adams, the Year 3 teacher.

French Club – For children in Years 1 and 2, the French Club is organised by ‘Le Club Francais’. Following their own fun curriculum, the children learn to speak French through a variety of activities and games.

FRIDAY

Gym Club – An energetic club which combines gymnastic skills with aerobics, run by Miss Hadley, a Level 3 Gymnastics club coach from Birmingham University. Open to children in Reception and Years 1,2 and 3, the club offers the opportunity to develop gross motor skills in a safe, controlled environment.
