Between the 6th and the 9th of March 2012 inspectors from the Independent Schools Inspectorate visited the Nursery and the School.  Over the course of four days they carried out a wide-ranging and extremely thorough examination of all aspects of the education, care and services we provide  Their findings in relation to the Nursery are set out on page 14 et seq of the report.  Those findings fall under the following four broad headings:

(i)The overall effectiveness of the Early Years provision

(ii)The effectiveness of the leadership and management of the Early Years Foundation Stage

(iii)The quality of the provision in the Early Years Foundation Stage

(iv)Outcomes for children in the Early Years Foundation Stage

The inspectors rated as “Outstanding” the Nursery’s performance under every one of those headings.  Moreover, the Nursery was deemed to be compliant with all provisions of the Childcare Act 2006 and no recommendations for further improvement were made.

We were delighted to receive such a rating only two-and-a-half years after opening our doors. It was due entirely to the professionalism, hard work and dedication of our Manager Hayley Fox and her staff.  We are, of course, fortunate to have a delightful and superbly-equipped setting;  but that is only a small part of the picture.  It has always been, and will remain, our philosophy that it is people who make a nursery.  It is they who nurture, educate and care for your child;  it is they who strive to enable your child to realise his or her full potential;  and it is to them that you entrust your child’s wellbeing and safety.  They are, without doubt, the beating heart of the nursery.  The ISI report was a glowing endorsement of their achievements.  However, we will not rest easy on our laurels but continue to seek and find ways of improving further the service we offer.

You may be wondering why the inspection was not carried out by OFSTED, as it was in February 2010.  A new system of inspecting the nursery departments of independent schools was launched at the beginning of 2012.  OFSTED, though it remains the Nursery’s regulatory body, has effectively devolved its inspection duties to the ISI.  It does, however, continue to monitor the work of the ISI on behalf of the Department for Education.  In practical terms, there is no difference between the standards and criteria applied by OFSTED and those applied by the ISI:  the approaches of both inspecting bodies are derived from a common source, namely the principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage.  In other words, an “Outstanding” ranking from the ISI is of equivalent stature to an “Outstanding” ranking from OFSTED.  If you wish to learn more about the new system, known as Integrated Inspections, please do not hesitate to approach our Manager Hayley Fox or consult the ISI website (
